NEW! Winery of the Month: The Federalist
MARCH WINERY OF THE MONTH:
THE FEDERALIST WINERY
The Federalist’s vineyards are located in Sonoma County, California. Owned and managed by the Terlato Family, they have positioned the winery to produce single vineyard and estate wines with a focus on Zinfandel.
To honor our Founding Fathers and their love of wine, we created a collection of varietals as big and bold as the men themselves. We began with our flagship Visionary Zinfandel featuring the man who pioneered The Federalist Party, Alexander Hamilton. Our Dry Creek Federalist Zinfandel is hand-crafted to bring out the true individuality of the Zinfandel grape. The Dry Creek Valley has unique characteristics that make it especially well-suited for cultivation of this hearty, decidedly American grape. The valley receives pronounced afternoon heat, but our vines are also cooled by the night air that creeps up the Russian River Valley from the waters of the Pacific Ocean, producing evening and early morning fog.
We have since created a Chardonnay featuring the Statue of Liberty, paying homage to the work of our Founding Fathers, fighting for our country's liberty. It is full-bodied with a long, lingering finish. Our Chardonnay boasts an oak backbone balanced with big fruit flavors and a nice acidity. This golden wine offers rich flavors, ripe fruits and bright acidity, with an aroma of lemon curd, pear and cinnamon. The lemon and cardamon spice flavors shine, with a lush texture and long, smooth finish.
The Federalist Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon is a revolutionary wine created to honor the man many call the first American, Benjamin Franklin. The Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of blue/black fruits (blackberries, blueberries) and cinnamon spice, a good density, firm tannin structure, and a long, smooth finish.
The Federalist Lodi Zinfandel is a revolutionary wine created to salute the first President of the United States, George Washington. In the spirit of George Washington and our Founding Fathers, this wine offers bold and original expressions of this truly American grape. The Lodi Zinfandel has aromas of toasted oak and maple syrup, which meet indulgent brown sugar and blackberry jam flavors in this very ripe-tasting, full-bodied wine. It's easy to gulp and enjoy, not being especially brawny or tannic, and should be great with pulled pork or Mexican molé.
The Federalist Honest Red Blend pays homage to one of the most highly regarded American President's of all time, Abraham Lincoln. A blend of Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has aromas and flavors of plum, blackberry and black currant with a hint of spice. The dark fruits and spice flavors offers a rich, round mouthfeel with a long finish.
Our newest edition to the Federalist family is the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Zinfandel from Mendocino County! Aged in real bourbon barrels for six months, this wine portrays Alexander Hamilton, who met his demise at the end of a smoking barrel in the most famous duel in American history.
Ben Franklin said, "Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy."
